Kermit Ray Hughes
June 15, 1945 - September 23, 2025
Kermit Ray Hughes, age 80 and a resident of Tylertown, Mississippi, passed away Tuesday September 23, 2025 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. He owned and operated Hughes Dairy Farm for many years and also operated Hughes Trucking, hauling milk for dairies throughout the area. Kermit also operated the Chevron gas station in Tylertown for a while. He proudly served his community and country in the Mississippi-Army National Guard for several years. Kermit was also elected as First District Walthall County Supervisor and served his community in that manner for a time. He was a longtime active member of Lawrence Creek Baptist Church and he enjoyed watching old Western TV shows and movies. Kermit always loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and young great-grandchildren.
Survived by: 3 Daughters and Sons in law: Treasure and James May of Knoxville, TN, Natasha Hughes of Petal, MS, Tiffany and Rusty Smith of Franklinton; 5 Grandchildren and Spouses: Austen and Katelynn Hughes, Taylor May, Evan and Baileigh Smith, Ashley and Brian Seal, Easton Smith; Great-grandchildren: Barrett Seal, Avery Seal, Sammy Smith, Sailor Hughes, Teagan Hughes, Ivy Hughes, Rylee May; Sisters in law: Jean Thomas, June Thomas, Susan Thomas; Special Nephews and Niece: James Murrell Hughes, Kelly Ray Hughes, Linda Gayle Chavers; Special Cousins: Marilyn Andrews, JoAnn Massey; Also numerous other beloved nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Betty Joyce Thomas Hughes, grandson Spencer May, parents Cannie Hughes and Lenora Dillon Hughes, brother and sister in law Prentiss and Mary Frances Hughes, father in law and mother in law Alphus and Hattie Thomas, sister in law and brother in law Thelma and Ray Watson, sister in law Pauline Lumpkin, brothers in law James Thomas, Melvin Thomas, Glen Thomas and other family members
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday September 27th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 10:00 am on Sunday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Sunday with Eld. Duane Ball, Eld. Don Jacobs, and Eld. Lerand Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery.
