Derrick Steve Procell
June 13, 1978 - June 17, 2025
Derrick Steve Procell, age 47 and of New Orleans, passed away on June 17, 2025. Known for his unmatched charisma, sharp style, and magnetic humor, Derrick was the life of every party—the one who lit up every room he entered. He had a gift for lifting spirits, making people laugh and bringing joy wherever he went. A proud graduate of Franklinton High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, Derrick was a devoted member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He was loved by many for natural charm, effortless humor and the way he made everyone feel like they mattered. People looked forward to his social media posts each day, knowing they would start their mornings with a laugh and a little light.
Derrick was a deeply loving son who shared a special bond with his mother Darlene. He made it a priority to include her in the best parts of his life—concerts, events and celebrations. Derrick and his father, Steve, shared a heartfelt connection in their own unique way, rooted in love and respect. Above all, Derrick treasured his family. He had an extraordinary bond with his sister, D’Andra, whom he adored and loved with his whole heart. He was a proud and playful uncle. He embraced those roles fully, always showing up with joy and generosity.
Derrick is survived by his parents Steve and Darlene Procell; his sister D’Andra Stricker and husband Buddy; nephew Drew; nieces Avery, Claire, and Emily; great-nephew Beckham; grandmothers Bronis “Butch” Thomas and Annette Ireland; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends who became like family.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Melvin Procell, Charles Edwin Thomas and LaVoe Ireland and his uncle Jeffery Procell.
A celebration of Derrick’s unforgettable life was held on July 12, 2025, where hundreds gathered to honor the man who gave so much love, laughter and light to this world. A private memorial service for immediate family will be held on July 18, 2025 at Crain Funeral Home.
Derrick’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him—vibrant, joyful and unforgettable
