Amite Woman Killed in Crash on LA Hwy 1054 Near Union Church Road

On May 24, 2025, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a single-vehicle crash on LA Hwy 1054 near Union Church Road in Tangipahoa Parish. The crash claimed the life of 20-year-old Shellie J. Taylor of Amite.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2025 Kia Sorento, driven by Taylor, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 1054. For reasons still under investigation, Taylor failed to negotiate a left-hand curve. As a result, the Kia veered off the roadway to the right into a ditch, struck a utility pole, and collided with a tree.

Taylor, who was properly restrained, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. As part of the ongoing investigation, a routine toxicology sample was obtained from Taylor for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the importance of making responsible decisions while operating a motor vehicle. Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted. While not all crashes are survivable, avoiding risky behaviors and staying alert behind the wheel can greatly reduce your chances of being involved in a serious injury or fatal crash
