Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown has reported that on Sunday (March 2, 2025), five people were shot at approximately 7:00 PM following the Krewe of Pepe Mardi Gras Parade. Franklinton Police officers and Washington Parish Sheriff’s Deputies were in the immediate vicinity and provided life-saving care to the victims until they were transported to area hospitals. Two victims were treated and released. Three of the five victims remain hospitalized, one being reported in critical condition.
At approximately 11:40 PM, the Franklinton Police Department arrested 18 year-old Jamerian Anders of Franklinton on five (5) counts of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, described as a gang related shooting. Anders was apprehended by detectives shortly after the incident. During questioning, Anders provided a voluntary, inculpatory statement in which he implicated himself in the commission of the crime(s).
Detectives continue to process evidence and additional arrests are probable.
During the parade and unrelated to the aforementioned shooting, officers arrested two local juveniles who were found to be in possession of firearms on the parade route. The juveniles were also within a school zone. An earlier threat of gunshots caused officers to come into contact with an individual found to be in possession of an AR-15 style rifle.
