Last Sunday (March 9, 2025), officers with Bogalusa Police Department were patrolling the Pleasant Hill neighborhood and observed a subject known to be wanted on felony warrants. The officers conducted a traffic stop, positively identifying the suspect and subsequently taking him into custody.
Rashad Fortenberry, age 41 and of Bogalusa, was placed under arrest without incident and taken to the Bogalusa City Jail where he was booked on separate warrants for the charges of Attempted 2nd degree murder, 2nd degree battery and aggravated assault. Fortenberry was transferred and booked into the Washington Parish Jail on March 10, 2025. Bond is set at $150,000.00.
The attempted murder warrant stems from a February 2025 incident involving Fortenberry and an unnamed victim. A disturbance at a residence in Southwest Bogalusa turned violent when Fortenberry and the victim became involved in a physical altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed.
The 2nd degree battery and aggravated assault warrants were the result of an August 2024 incident at a convenience store on the southside of Bogalusa. Fortenberry allegedly attacked the unnamed victim which resulted in severe injuries to the victim.
“Alert and attentive patrol officers were able to locate this individual and make this arrest without incident. These officers should be commended for their professionalism and the dedication they have to the safety of our citizens.” Said Chief James Smith.
