District Attorney Collin Sims reports that on January 30, 2025, a St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted 18-year-old Caleb Gasery for second degree murder relating to the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Jason Sumner on October 9, 2024.
Late on the evening of October 9, 2024, STPSO deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 26000 block of E. Jackson St. in Lacombe in reference to a subject who had possibly been shot. Patrol deputies located a man, later identified as Sumner, who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound, lying near the porch of the residence. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful.
Gasery was arrested on October 15, 2024 for the murder.
Detective Kyle Krenwinkel with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office headed the investigation. Assistant District Attorney Ronnie Gracianette presented the case to the grand jury.
