Helen "Charlene" Carnegie Roach
August 24, 1931 - January 2, 2025
Helen “Charlene” Carnegie Roach, age 93 and of Bogalusa, LA, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 2, 2025, at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital surrounded by family and her kind caretakers.
She was born Helen Charlene Carnegie on August 24, 1931, in Thomas, LA. Her parents were Ward and Elvie Carnegie.
Charlene, was a homemaker, worked as a server at Pasquale Manale’s in New Orleans for several years and was a cherished wife, mother, and dear friend to many. Charlene loved to care for others in her community, her beloved “Love Missionary Baptist Church”, her family and anyone she came across that was in need. She enjoyed cooking for the masses, reading her Bible, listening to old hymns, singing and rocking babies at every chance. She fiercely cared for and protected those around her and approached life with strength and perseverance. Charlene’s greatest legacy is her example of faith. She loved Jesus Christ with all of her heart and lived her life to glorify Him. She was an active member for many years of Love Missionary Baptist Church in Bogalusa.
She is survived by her children, Mickey Roach of Bogalusa and Victoria (Roach) Jackman of Auburn, AL. Her grandchildren, Melissa Miller (Mark) of TX, Edward Whitney of Iowa, Duane Whitney of Bogalusa, Jason Bates (Kimberly) of Gretna LA, Jeff Roach (Alicia) of Magnolia, TX, Stephanie Bennett (Jason) of Mandeville, LA, Shelby Frick (Taylor) of Houston, TX, and Ricky Roach, Jr of Bogalusa LA. She was exceedingly blessed with countless great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren as well. She also leaves behind several beloved and cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Roach, her son, Ray Whitney, daughter, Theresa Bates, her son, Ricky Roach, granddaughter, Tina Bouvier, and granddaughter, Betsy Bouvier. Her brothers, Oather, Ollie, Harold, LW, sisters, Margie, Myrtle, Mildred, and Rose.
Family and friends will be received from 10am – 1pm until the time of funeral service at 1pm on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Brown-McGehee Funeral Home, 610 Avenue F, Bogalusa, LA 70427.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations be made to Love Missionary Baptist Church, 1602 Sunset Drive, Bogalusa, LA 70427, directed to Charlene’s Blessings Fund.
