Dennis Earl Barber, Sr.
June 7, 1960 - December 2, 2024
Dennis Earl Barber, Sr. was born on June 7, 1960 to his father Jim Barber and mother Lillian Reeves Barber. At a young age, he began driving trucks cross-country, later spending many years at Westfarms Nursery, and finally finishing his work days at Boom Outdoors, a deer farm near Folsom, and you may have seen him a time or two at the Folsom Car Wash. Everywhere he worked, they became family. Many of his days were spent tending to his cows, out in a field on a tractor, working in his yard, and if it was after 5:00, having a Busch beer that he would have just purchased from Bernie’s. He was quite the simple man, and in short, was probably one of his most desirable traits.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Dennis Barber, Jr. (Jessica), Ashley Barber Holloway (Tone), and Brennan Barber (Audrianna), whom he shared with his former spouse of 32 years, Colleen. His mother Lillian Reeves Barber, a niece, whom he helped raise Vicki Barber Alonzo (Joey), his brothers Roger Barber and William Barber, sister Cheryl Easley, along with many nieces and nephews. He was “Papa” to Alexis, Luke, Finlee, Rayanna, Nikolas, Gabriel and Olivia, although no baby that he met wasn’t “his”.
After a hemorrhagic stroke in November 2020, he spent his last 4 years living the “retired life” with his daughter and son in law, where most days you’d find him out on the porch listening to his favorite music, but he was also always ready to “take a ride”. He beat the odds more times than most are given and if you asked him he would personally say “you can’t kill bad grass”.
Pops was preceded in death by his infant daughter Brandy Lynn Barber, his father and other loved ones. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and anyone who knew him.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) on Monday December 9th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A memorial service for friends and family will be held in the funeral home chapel at 7:00 pm Monday. Following a private family ceremony, Dennis will be laid to rest in the San Pedro Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
