James Gerald Wood

June 3, 1943 - December 26, 2024

James Gerald Wood, age 81 and of Tylertown, MS, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024 at his residence in Tylertown, MS. He was born Thursday, June 3, 1943 in Walthall County, MS to the late Percy Wood and Inez Zeringue Wood. Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Gerald Wood; sisters, Evelyn Smith, Elouise Dykes and Mickey Stringer.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024 from 9:00 AM until funeral service at 11:00 AM at Capps Funeral Home, 270 Old Hwy 98 E, Tylertown, MS. Burial will follow in Wood Cemetery. Brother Landon Lambert will officiate. Hartman Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Pinebelt Foundation for the Wood Cemetery.

Mr. Wood was a lifelong member of Calvery Baptist Church.  He served was a member of the Broad of Dairyman of Walthall County and one of the founders of the Holmes Water Park in Tylertown, MS. Mr. Wood used his talent and passion of cooking at his own restaurant, Gerald’s Steakhouse for 25 years. He also enjoyed growing watermelons, farming, and planting pine trees. 

Survivors include his wife, Nithea L. VanDan Wood; son, Alan D Wood; daughter, Tammy L. Baughman (Wayne); grandchildren, Kayla Pellegrin (Travis), Wesley Wood (Taylor), Brittany Baughman, and Christopher Baughman; great grandchildren, Rhett Wood, Tanner Criswell, Baeleigh Temple, Kadiance Wood, and Tayson Pellegrin; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family. 

Pallbearers will be Conner VanDan, Jeff Stringer, Wesley Wood, Christopher Baughman, Hal Wood, and Tommy Smith.
