Walter Shirley Boyd
September 22, 1933 - November 5, 2024
Walter Shirley Boyd, age 91, passed away peacefully November 5, 2024, at his home in Bogalusa, LA.
Mr. Boyd was a committed, strong-willed man, who loved his family and country. He spent over 30 years in multiple United States military forces, including National Guard, Navy, and the Army. He also was a Mason at Center Lodge #244 for 50 years. After his military career, Mr. Boyd continued to serve his community by teaching. He taught welding at Sullivan Vo-Tech in Bogalusa and also at Rayburn Correctional Facility (known then as W.C.I.). He led an amazing life and career at whatever he set his mind to, being a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for over 50 years. Mr. Boyd even coached little league football for Bogalusa and was a member of District 7 Fire Department board for 25 years. Although he lived a long, prosperous life, even at the age of 91, he remained “sharp as a tack”.
Mr. Boyd is survived by one son: Rian Boyd and wife, Paula; a daughter: Patricia “Patty” Boyd; four grandchildren: Walter Lee Boyd, Katherine Boyd, Adam Boyd, and Daniel Boyd; four great-grandchildren; a brother: Freddy W. Boyd; one sister: Lennie Sue Carhart; and a host of other family and friends he made along the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Vaughn Lee Massey Boyd; one son: Walter Lance Boyd; his parents: Walter Boyd and Elva Jones Boyd; and a sister: Elva Jo Rogers Porter.
Brown-McGehee Funeral Home was entrusted with final arrangements. Saturday, October 9, 2024, visitation will start at 11AM until time of service at 12PM. Military Honors will be rendered by the American Legion at 12PM followed by Masonic Rites, and then the funeral service will immediately follow.
