Gloria Burris Magee
July 10, 1932 - November 10, 2024

Gloria Burris Magee was a lifelong resident of Franklinton, LA. Born on July 10, 1932, to the late Talmage Burris and Madgquin Crowford Burris, Gloria was a 1951 graduate of Washington Parish High School. After graduating from Grambling State University in 1956, she started working for the Washington Parish School System in 1957 as an elementary teacher and continued for 33 years.
On January 26, 1957, she was united in holy matrimony with her high school sweetheart, Willie Dewitt Magee. To this union, two sons were born: Lawton and Kendrick.
Gloria united with Bethel Church of Christ Holiness USA in her early teens. As a youth, she dedicated herself to her church, where she faithfully served as a Sunday School secretary, Sunday School teacher, VBS leader, church clerk (1975-2006), choir member, and UCWM president.
Her willingness to serve in various capacities, along with her humility and kindness, defined her character and allowed the glory of the Lord to be revealed, making her a godly example of a leader, wife, and mother.
The legacy of Sister Gloria (GB) Magee will be cherished by her two sons, Lawton (Octavia) Magee and Kendrick (Gwendolyn) Magee both of Franklinton, LA; one brother, Truman (Brunett) Burris of Los Angeles, CA; one sister, Ora Brock of Los Angeles, CA; eight grandchildren: Jeremy, Joy, Justin, Jason, Kensha, Sophia, Travante, and Tyler; and eight great-grandchildren: Tahj, Lyla, Hope, Grayson, Brayden, Landon, Byce, Travante Jr., and Travon. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Talmage Burris and Madgquin Crowford Burris; her husband, Willie D. Magee; brothers Conston Burris and Hamilton Burris; sister Bobbie B. Boykin; and grandson Joshua Magee.
Sister GB was loved by family and many dear friends.
A visitation will bel held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9:00AM – 11:00AM followed by the funeral service for 11:00AM at Bethel Church of Christ Holiness USA with Elder Alvin Partman – Pastor Officiating. Interment – Bethel Cemetery.
Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
