Obituary

Floyd Harper

February 29, 1928 - October 5, 2024

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”  Psalms 27:1

Born to Alex and Louanna Harper in Bassfield, Mississippi on February 29, 1928, Floyd was the second child of eight children. He was reared in a Christian home, where the difference of knowing right from wrong was a standard. He was a leader as a kid, always following a pathway to better himself and the people around him.

Thereafter, the Harper family journeyed to Bogalusa and began to make a life for themselves. Years later, Floyd began his route to make decisions that would lead him to labor work as a general contractor in Alaska for 30 plus years, various travels around the world, and eventually settling in Las Vegas, Nevada.  After retirement for over a period of forty years, Floyd enjoyed life until God called him Home on October 5, 2024.

During Floyd’s life, he lived and recognized that God was in control, and he lived a life, treating others right. From this, he used his hand of love to spread generosity and prosperity to everyone he loved. He was joined in holy matrimony to Rose Harper, having no children but raised nieces and nephews as his own. Because of his faithfulness to many generations, Floyd was blessed to live a life of 96 years of love, laughter, and kindness, adorned with well stitched suits, matching ties, and shiny shoes.

Floyd leaves a heritage of love to his loved ones: two sisters: Doris L. Harper, Bogalusa, LA, and Lois Harper, Gulfport, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, great-great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife: Rose Harper; parents: Alex and Louanna Harper and siblings: Charlie Harper, Ardessie Peters, Wilene A. Gordon, Alex Charles Harper, and John Harper.
