Johnnie Ray Thomas

Johnnie Ray Thomas, born in Franklinton, Louisiana on July 15, 1947, peacefully passed away at his home on October 2, 2024. A proud resident of Washington Parish for most of his life, Johnnie was a devoted family man, patriot, and lover of life.
A man of great dedication, Johnnie served his country with honor as a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army and National Guard for 17 years. A Vietnam War veteran, he was stationed at Camp Beauregard and was deeply proud of his military service. Prior to his time in the military, Johnnie worked as a finance manager, a role he excelled in with his sharp mind and strong work ethic.
Outside of his professional and military accomplishments, Johnnie had a deep passion for gospel music, particularly the Gaither Vocal Band, and found immense joy in cheering for LSU sports and the New York Yankees. He also treasured the moments spent traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, a place that held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine K. Thomas, and his three cherished children, Kimberlyn Ledbetter (Everett), Chris Thomas (Sharon), and Randy Thomas. Johnnie’s legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Matthew Ledbetter, Caleb Ledbetter, Hannah Stewart, Brock Thomas, Cameron Thomas, Christian Thomas, Pearce Thomas, and Callen Thomas, as well as his great-grandchildren, Emily Ledbetter and Jordan Ledbetter. Johnnie was also deeply loved by his siblings, Doris Ray Rogers, Bobbie Jo and Willie Fay Rogers, John A. and Sue Thomas, and Reverend Burdette Thomas, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Passman Thomas and Reverend Paul Jefferson Thomas, sister in law Linda Thomas, brother in law A C Rogers and mother and father in law Floyd and Carrie S. Kahl.
Family and friends are invited to honor Johnnie’s life at Acy’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Franklinton, Louisiana, on Friday, October 4, 2024. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with funeral services following at the church. Johnnie will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, surrounded by the love of his family, friends, and community.

Johnnie Ray Thomas will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his service to his country, and his zest for life. His presence in the lives of those who knew him will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
