Dorothy Lucille Ellis Carter

Dorothy Lucille Ellis Carter, age 92 and a resident of Bogalusa, LA, passed away on September 28, 2024 at Our Lady of the Angels Hospital in Bogalusa, LA. Dorothy was born in Gulfport, MS to the late Thomas Jefferson and Tera Blanche Boyd Ellis. She was an avid sports fan, and could always be found cheering on her teams, especially the LSU Tigers, to the point that she was often referred to as Coach Carter. She was married to her loving husband Hubert Elee Carter, whom she adored for 65 years before he passed away in 2016. To know her was to truly love her.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Lynn (Andy) DeLeon; her grandchildren Melissa Elizabeth (David) Crain, Kevin Elee (Amanda) DeLeon, and Bradford Ashley (Laynette) DeLeon; great grandchildren David Lavell (Ashley) Crain II; Emilia Tschen, and Cecilia Tschen; her brother Thomas J. “Tommy” (Suzette) Ellis; a sister Ruby Doris (Chuck) Adams; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Bernie and Judy Birdsong.
She is preceded by her parents Thomas J. and Tera B. Ellis; her husband Hubert E. Carter; her sisters Margie Faye Williams and Thelma Bernice Fussell; and her brothers James “Jimmy” Ellis, Leo Ellis, and Elmer Ellis.
Services to celebrate her life will be held at Poole Ritchie Funeral Home on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 1:00 pm. The visitation will begin that morning at 11:00 am. Rev. Scott Breland will officiate the service and interment will follow at Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery.
