Goldie Caves Sumrall
June 8, 1941 - August 30, 2024
Golda Lea Caves Sumrall passed away Friday afternoon August 30, 2024. She devoted her life to her husband and children. She was 83 years old and known as Goldie to her family and friends. Goldie was born to the late William “Bill” Caves and Agnes Corkern Caves, the oldest of their 8 children Tommy, John Floyd, Roy, Donald, Billie Ann and Betty Jean. She graduated from Franklinton High School.
As a young lady, she met the love of her life Jessie Sumrall, Jr. and together they had 4 children, Sidney, Gilbert, Donna and Jessica. They were happily married for over 50 years. Tragedy struck the young couple’s life when her mother was found dead at home by accidently being electrocuted. Goldie and her sister Billie Ann raised their remaining siblings. Goldie and Jessie enjoyed a long healthy life of raising their children on a large dairy farm. The family were members of Poplarhead Missionary Baptist Church, where she also taught Sunday School and loved reading her Bible.
She also worked for the Washington Parish School Board at the Franklinton Elementary School cafeteria and later as a teacher for Adult Education, helping many achieve their high school diplomas. After retiring, she enjoyed visiting family and friends, shopping, taking care of her home and cooking meals for her family. It was important to her to host Holiday gatherings and have her family together for fellowship and laughs in her home. She especially loved her “coffee time” on her front porch, reading the newspaper, watching the traffic pass (some would honk, she would wave,) and talking on the phone. She always welcomed company and wanted to be sure everyone was comfortable, and had more than what they needed. She was always up to a good conversation or visit. She never met a stranger, and always made a friend.
Goldie had a remarkable ability to spread love and kindness wherever she went. Always ready to lend a helping hand and offer a listening ear. Her words of wisdom have helped so many. She was a role model to not only her children and grandchildren but for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her quick wit and sense of humor could brighten anyone who crossed her pat. May her spirits live in our Hearts forever.
