Man Dead From Self-Inflicted Gunshot in St. Tammany Parish

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's reports that on Tuesday (September 17, 2024) evening, a deputy observed a vehicle travelling on I-12 matching the description of one being driven by a subject wanted in connection with a shooting in another jurisdiction, and the deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver pulled over at the exit and stopped. 

While the deputy was exiting his patrol car to conduct the traffic stop, the vehicle sped up for a reason unknown at the time and crashed into the ditch. Upon deputies making contact with the driver, it was observed that he had suffered from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies on scene rendered emergency medical aide to the individual, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred on the Hwy 1088 off-ramp of I-12 Eastbound.
