On the morning of August 8, 2021, 21 year-old Typolia Peters, Jr. was gunned down outside of
his apartment in the Lumberton Cove (formerly Highland Park) Apartment complex in Bogalusa, Louisiana. In September 2021, warrants were issued for the arrest of Broderick Chatmon, Jr., a 21 year-old Bogalusa resident, after an extensive investigation into the incident.
Chatmon fled the state and was subsequently arrested in Texas for crimes in that state. Chatmon was held at the Harris County Jail pending the resolution of the additional charges before being transported back to Bogalusa to face the charges stemming from the 2021 shooting.

On August 13, 2024, Chatmon was booked by the Bogalusa Police Department on the charges of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Possession/Carrying of a Weapon By a Convicted Felon.
