Charles Christopher "Chris" Walters

October 9, 1949 - August 9, 2024

Charles Christopher "Chris" Walters, Sr., born in Norfolk, Virginia and a resident of Jackson, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024 at the age of 74. He was born October 9, 1949 to Fred M. Walters, Sr. and Madeleine Moody Walters. Chris was the second of five siblings.

He is survived by two children whom he was most proud of, Charles "Chuck" Walters, Jr., wife Heather, and Angela Walters. Known as Paw Paw "Chris", he leaves behind three adored grandchildren, Basia and Balyn Walters and Paisley Lackie and one step grandchild, Skylin Lackie. He is also survived by his sibling, Marian Walters Uffman and husband, Steve Uffman, of Baton Rouge, LA, as well as nieces and nephews, their spouses, great nieces and nephews and many other beloved family and friends.

Chris is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Fred M. "Chip" Walters, Jr. of Baton Rouge, LA, David Jonathan Walters, Sr. of St. Francisville, LA and his sister Michaela Ball of Baton Rouge, LA.

Chris was proud of his country and honorably served in the US Army from 1968-1971, where he fought in the Vietnam War. His was awarded the Vietnam Service Award, National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Military service was influential in his family, where his father served in the Navy as a pilot, his mother also served in the Navy as an RN and his brother, "Chip", served in the Marines. Chris was initially stationed in Alaska and later relocated to Vietnam, after his brother was wounded.

After returning home from Vietnam, Chris worked as a boat captain and owned a crew boat company on the Mississippi River. He was also very athletic and loved all things sports and LSU. In addition to being a long-distance runner, he enjoyed basketball and never turned down a competitive game with his brothers and his friends.

He will be dearly missed and though it is with heavy hearts, all are grateful and blessed to have known him. We rejoice with him and celebrate his eternal life with our Lord in Heaven.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home & Crematory at 216 Alabama Avenue, Bogalusa, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m. with the memorial service starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024. Burial to immediately follow at Ponemah Cemetery in Bogalusa, LA. A gathering will follow in honor of Chris in Bogalusa.
