Salary Range: $16.00 per hour
Job Description: As a CD, you will be responsible for receiving complaints from the public concerning police emergencies and dispatching suitable units to investigate. Here are some of the key responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Relay instructions or questions from remote units.
- Enter information into the computer-aided dispatch program.
- Record calls, broadcasts, and complaints received.
- Question callers to determine the location and seriousness of emergencies and the appropriate response.
- Coordinate all police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency requests, relaying instructions to the closest and most suitable units available.
- Transmit and receive messages between divisions of our agency and other law enforcement agencies.
- Contact police officers to verify assignment locations and liaise with callers when necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Computer literacy and the ability to type 25 words per minute.
- Strong multitasking skills.
- Valid Louisiana Motor Vehicle Operator's License, birth certificate (minimum age of 18 years), and Social Security Card.
Physical Demands:
- Sitting for extended periods.
- Occasional standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Specific vision and hearing abilities are required.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment:
- Must be able to work rotating shifts at the demand of the Communications Lieutenant.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
