This afternoon (July 3, 2024) around 2:00pm, a Washington Parish Deputy Sheriff responded to the Mt. Hermon area in reference to a shooting. Colby Stokes, age 23, approached his neighbor and admitted to shooting his grandparents. The neighbor called 911 and waited with Mr Stokes while deputies responded to the scene.
When deputies arrived, they located two victims who both suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. Deputies made contact with Colby Stokes, who was taken into custody without incident.
The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female victim was transported to North Oaks Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Detectives are still attempting to determine the motive for the shooting. The Louisiana State Police Crime Lab is processing the crime scene and the Washington Parish coroner will identify the victim.
Colby Stokes will be booked with two counts of 2nd degree murder.
