Lena Pauline Cotton

February 23, 1937 - June 9, 2024

Lena Pauline Cotton, age 87 and a resident of Pine, was born on February 23, 1937 and departed this life on to her Heavenly Home on Sunday June 9, 2024. She was a longtime member of Central Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. She was retired from the Riverside Medical Center Rehabilitation Department after a 35 year career, serving countless patients.

Pauline enjoyed traveling, but possessed a great pride and passion for music, including her talents and abilities to play multiple musical instruments and a beautiful vocalist. She enjoyed opening her home with enthusiasm, inviting family and friends to join and share her love for music. Pauline also enjoyed sitting on the porches of the home in Mile Branch Settlement during the Washington Parish Free Fair, singing and playing music with many of her friends. Additionally, Pauline played the piano and sang in church. She loved the Lord. She would sit for hours most days studying her Bible. Her Christian values were wonderful examples for her family.

Her children and their spouses remain to cherish the memories of their dear mother: Loretta and Chester Dillon of Tylertown, MS; Lionel and Sherry Cotton of Pine; Paula and Lester Spears of Pine; and son in law Murrel Hughes of Tylertown. Remaining to also cherish the memories of Pauline are her grandchildren: Donnie Hughes, Brent Hughes, Carlos Dillon, Lynell Spears Hanson, Truly Dillon and Deanna Kellar. She also had numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her siblings Woodrow Freeman of Sevierville, TN, Shirley and Eld. Edward Penton of Pine.

Preceding Pauline in death is the love of her life and adored husband Clyde Cotton, daughter Virgie Hughes, parents Woodrow Wilson Freeman and Ophelia Miley Freeman, grandson Brannon Hughes, sister and brother in law Bertha and Arnold Miller, sister in law Linda Freeman.

A service to honor the life and legacy of Pauline will be held on Thursday June 13th at Central Missionary Baptist Church (56413 N. Central Church Road) from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the church at 11:00 am Thursday with Eld. Jason Skipper, Eld. Edward Penton and Eld. Jason Kellar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
