District Attorney J. Collin Sims reports that on April 17, 2024, a St. Tammany Parish grand jury indicted
Christopher Mikhail Baker, age 32 and of Slidell, for second degree murder, second degree cruelty to juveniles, possession of fentanyl and cocaine and illegal carrying of weapons while in possession of fentanyl. This incident occurred in Slidell on January 7, 2024 and involved the death of a 2-year-old girl. The child’s death was attributed to cocaine and fentanyl intoxication.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched January 7, 2024 to a residence on Admiral Nelson Drive in the Kingspoint area near Slidell in reference to an unresponsive 2 year-old. The child and her 1 year-old brother were both transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital. The 1 year-old was treated and released, but the 2 year-old was pronounced deceased upon arrival at the hospital. The children were in the care of Christopher Baker, a relative, at the time of the incident, and paraphernalia containing drug residue was found in the home.
An autopsy was conducted and toxicology results indicated fentanyl and cocaine exposure contributed to the child’s death.
Detective Winston Harbin, Jr. with the St. Tammany Sheriff’s Office was in charge of the investigation. Assistant District Attorney Ronnie Gracianette presented the case to the grand jury.
