Benny "Ben" Morgan
December 21, 1933 - April 9, 2024
Benny "Ben" Morgan, age 90 and a resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning April 9. 2024. He was born and raised in Washington Parish, Louisiana, before leaving high school to join the US Navy in 1952. Before he left, he married his high school sweetheart, Christine, to whom he was married for 71 years. While she stayed in Stoney Point for his first tour of duty in Hawaii, eventually Christine joined him in California and their journey together as a Navy family began. Over the course of his 30 year career, Ben served during the Korean Conflict and survived a tour of duty during the Vietnam War. He also served on four Naval vessels, including the USS Lexington. Upon retirement, Ben and Chris built their farm, affectionately known as Homeport, the site of the infamous tractor rides. However, his retirement was short lived due to his incessant need to stay busy and he took a civil service position at Stennis Space Center. After 14 years, he ventured into his second retirement.
Ben was actively involved in his churches wherever he was stationed and embraced the importance of missionary work from Vietnam to Central America. He supported the First Baptist Church of Franklinton in their mission work and was a dedicated deacon.
He is survived by: Daughter and Son in law: Valerie and Dan Mervine of Virginia Beach, VA; Son and Daughter in law: Clifford and Connie Morgan of Baker, FL; Grandchildren and Spouses: Frank and Vanessa Oblinsky, Aileen and Jon Royce, Meghan and Coleman Daniels, Morgan and Katie Oblinsky, Justin Morgan, Christina and Eric Young; Great-grandchildren: Laura, Landon, Julia, Jon, Jr., Jordan, Jemma, Karim, Adrian, Cameron, Cole, Nora, Sarah, Carter, Ruth; Also survived by brothers in law and numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his wife Christine Varnado Morgan, daughter Jowana Marie Morgan, parents Iddo Otis Morgan and Della Mae Givens Morgan as well as his siblings Clayton Morgan, Glyn Morgan, Charline Miller, Evelyn Stafford, Helen Erwin and other family members.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday April 15th from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Monday with Rev. Clifford Morgan and Frank Oblinsky officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the San Pedro Baptist Church Cemetery.
