STPSO Arrests Suspect in 2021 Slidell Murder

Tyrese Batiste, a 23 year-old man wanted by Slidell Police for first-degree murder was arrested by a
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s patrol deputy during a traffic stop Saturday (February 10, 2024) evening.

At approximately 6:45 p.m. Saturday, a criminal patrol deputy with the St. Tammany Parish 1st District was patrolling on Bayou Liberty Road near Slidell when he observed a silver Honda Accord pass him without working taillights.

The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and soon discovered the driver of the Honda Accord was none other than Tyrese Batiste, a man wanted by Slidell Police in connection with a murder which occurred in their jurisdiction on September 29, 2021. SPD, responding to a report of gun shots at the Canterbury House Apartments (301 Spartan Drive), found 18-year-old, Tacolby Burton, deceased along the rear fence line of the complex with several gunshot wounds to his body.

“Thanks to this alert deputy, a dangerous individual wanted by another agency has been taken off the streets,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “It does not matter what agency’s name is on the warrant, if you are wanted and we find you, you will be arrested.”
