Robert Melvin Sumrall, Sr.

January 11, 1927 - January 3, 2024

Robert “Melvin” Sumrall, Sr., age 96 and of Mt. Hermon, LA, passed away on January 3, 2024. He was born in Franklinton, LA on January 11, 1927 to the late Louis and Bessie Sumrall and was one of thirteen children.

Melvin was married to Janell Sumrall, who preceded him in death and has two children, Linda Nell Tonkin and Robert M. Sumrall, Jr. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Fishing was his favorite hobby, but his favorite activity was attending his church! He was an active member of Mount Hermon United Pentecostal Church and attended as often as his health would allow. He has been described by family as a jack of all trades, master of none.

Brother-in-law: Johnny Simmons, niece: Lanie Simmons; as well as Wayne Riley and his family were very special to Melvin.

Brown-McGehee Funeral Home was entrusted with final arrangements. There will be a graveside service at Mitchell’s Chapel Church of God in Poplarville, MS on Tuesday, January 9, 2023 at 1PM. Military honors will be rendered at graveside.
