Regina Powell

December 26, 1953 - January 13, 2024

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7

Regina Powell entered this life on December 26, 1953 to the late James H. Powell, Sr. and Ruth Powell in Bogalusa, LA., she was the third of seven children. Regina joined the Sweet Beulah Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. M. K. Duncan. 

Regina started her early education at Poplas Elementary and later graduated from Bogalusa High School in 1973. After graduating high school, she attended Sullivan Vo-technical Institution where she earned an associate degree in early childhood education and worked in the field for many years. She was a pilar of her community. Regina was a founding member of The Community Action Committee, where she also served as Secretary. As a lifelong resident of District A, she was a part of the District A Neighborhood Association. The association organized several events such as the annual Easter egg Hunt, Christmas giveaway, school supply giveaway, and District A clean up days.

Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her children, Lisa (Ray) Powell and Gary (Kelsey) Powell of Houston, TX and Jerrica Johnson of Bogalusa; her grandchildren, Regeana, Jamya, Varse (Tyran), Clarianna, Gariella, Gariona, Makel, Gary Jr, Ashad, Terrance, Kennedy and Semaj; one great granddaughter, Adahlynn Sartin; three brothers, James and Gregory Powell of Bogalusa, La, and Donnie Powell of Lakewood, Fl; three sisters, Brenda Powell and Rosa Ladner of Bogalusa, LA and Deborah ( Chester ) Watterson of Houston, Tx; one special niece, Tina Lader of Bogalusa, LA; two special nephews, Darryl Powell and Myshun Simmons; two aunts, Elizabeth Jackson of Detroit, MI and Doretha Young of Chicago, IL ; one uncle, Jim (Mildred) Jackson of Detroit, MI and Doretha Young of Chicago, IL; one God son, Marcus Rain; bonus grandchildren, TyTionna, Marcaysiah, Marcus and Robert; special friends, Gloria (Denard) Kates, Larry (Gretchen) Brown and Joel Miller and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Regina was preceded in death by her parents, James Powell, Sr. and Ruth Powell; one grandson, Garrit Powell.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 1:00PM  at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church with Rev. Brodrick Magee – Officiating; Rev. Charlie Parker – Pastor . 

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
