First Fatal Fire in Louisiana Was in Mt. Hermon

State Fire Marshal deputies are investigating the first fatal fire of 2024 in Mt. Hermon.

Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, Washington Parish Fire District #9 responded to the 38000 block of Bill Simmons Road in Mt. Hermon.

Firefighters arrived to find one injured victim outside reporting that another resident was still inside. Unfortunately, the body of an elderly man was later located in the home. (Unofficially, the victim has been identified as Bobby James.) The surviving victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

This investigation is ongoing. More information will be released as it becomes available.

Unfortunately, near the end of 2023, another fire on GT Patterson Road in the Mt. Hermon community devastated a residence but caused no loss of life.
