Covington Police Arrest Picayune Man for Home Invasion and Rape

The Covington Police Department (CPD) arrested and charged Zachary Lepine, age 34 and of Picayune, MS, with one count of First-Degree Rape - Victim Under 13 Years of Age, one count of Aggravated Burglary, one count of Felony Theft, and one count of Simple Battery.

In the early morning hours of January 15, 2024, CPD responded to a residence on East Magee Street in Covington after a report of someone breaking into an occupied home.

After further investigation, it was determined that Lepine entered the residence and committed several sexual-related acts before fleeing when confronted by the homeowner.

CPD Officers were at the residence within minutes of being informed of the situation. After a brief chase, CPD Officers, along with Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, located Lepine blocks away where he was taken into custody without incident.

"At this time, it does not appear Lepine knew the victim or had connections to our community," said Chief Michael Ferrell.

This investigation is active and ongoing, and additional charges are expected. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact CPD's Criminal Investigations Division at 985 867-1200. Citizens can also submit anonymous tips online at www.covla.com/police/tips
