The Franklinton Police Department and United States Secret Service are currently working a counterfeit case in which $50 bills are being passed in the Franklinton area.
Specifically, $5 denominations are being "washed" and then reprinted as $50 and passed at retail stores and banks throughout our area.
Citizens, banks and retailers are asked to pay particular attention to the cash they receive, especially in the $20, $50 and $100 denominations. The bills "mark" as real; however, the security strips are different and they bear the same serial numbers.
