At approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday, the STPSO Marine Division was contacted by the U.S. Coast Guard and asked to assist in locating four boaters who had gone into the water after their 40-foot fishing boat sunk in Lake Borgne near the CSX railroad bridge.
With the help of the U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, responding marine deputies located two of the individuals and pulled them out the water, but did not see the other two individuals.
Deputies observed a large tugboat nearby and while advising its occupants of the situation, they learned workers on the tugboat had pulled the other two individuals from the water and they were aboard the tugboat.
STPSO deputies took all four boaters to the Rigolets Marina, where emergency medical personnel were staged. All four were transported to local hospitals to be treated for exposure to the cold water.
