Obituary

Marie Washington Moore

March 4, 1932 - November 29, 2023

Marie Washington Moore was born on March 4, 1932, to the late William Washington and Bessie Brumfield Washington. She was the third oldest of six children.  Marie met her husband William “Son” Moore, Jr. at an early age, and they were married for over 40 years. Son and Marie were the proud parents to three daughters: Antronette, Jerry Lynn, and Janice.

Marie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was always there when we needed her.  Even though she didn’t have a fancy education, she had a relationship with God. Our mother was a very wise woman. She had many friends (most of whom preceded her in death) and was a well-loved member of the community in Franklinton. Anybody that knew Marie personally knew that she was a great cook. Many of her family members, friends, and people in the community would often rave over her homemade chili, red beans, and tea cakes. Marie loved watching “The Price Is Right” every morning and was also a dedicated listener of the Saturday morning gospel radio show here in Franklinton. She was also a New Orleans Saints fan. Marie was adored by many who referred to her as “Ree or Aint Ree”. She had a close relationship with her brothers and sisters. She also had a close relationship with her nieces and nephews. She loved all of them like her own children. Marie gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of her church until the progression of her illness. She devoted her life to loving and caring for her three daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Our dear mother sadly passed away on November 29, 2023 at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was very loved and will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband William Moore Jr., daughter Antronette Moore, grandsons Grady E. Woods, Jr. and Anton D. Moore, great granddaughter Destinee D. Moore, brothers George Washington, Willie Washington, Jerry Washington, and sister Josephine Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memories: daughters, Jerry Lynn Moore Woods of Tampa, FL and Janice Marie Moore Carter of Franklinton, LA; sister, Barbara May of Franklinton, LA; five grandchildren, Tarmecia Partman (Terrance) and Kenyon D. Moore Sr. of Franklinton, LA, Talonda Pittman (Arnold) of Covington, LA, Rosetta Marie Moore of Shelby, NC, and Shannon Thomas of Dallas, TX; eleven great grandchildren, Tavion, Kenyon Jr., Terion, Keano, Passion, Cedrion, Arnasia, Anaya, Zyieria, Eboni, and Nylan; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 from 11:00AM – 1:00PM followed by the funeral service at 1:00PM at Faith in the Word Ministry with Rev. Jacob Tate – officiating. Interment – Sweet Rest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
