Betty Jo Smith

February 13, 1961 - December 8, 2023

“Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love.”   Lamentations 3:32

Betty Smith, age 62 and of Bogalusa, La., sadly transitioned on December 8, 2023. Betty Smith was born to the late Mrs. Audrey Rachel and the late Mr. Joseph Self Sr. on February 13, 1961 in Independence, La. She was a remarkable woman, a loving mother, wife, and sister. Betty was a beacon of light into our lives. Her unwavering love, kindness, and selflessness touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. She dedicated her life to nurturing and caring for her family, always putting their needs before her own. Her unconditional love knew no bounds, and her presence brought comfort, laughter, and joy to those around her. 

As we bid farewell to her, we find solace in the memories we shared and the love she bestowed upon us. She will forever live on in our hearts, and her spirit will continue to inspire us to be the best versions of ourselves. 

Betty is survived by her husband of 34 years, James Smith, as well as her daughter, Jamie Smith-Johnson (Travante), grandson, (Tralin Johnson); siblings, Patricia Hampton, Oscar Martin; stepson, Rochaard Mason; a very special friend, Donald May, and a host of other family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Audrey Rachel; her father, Mr. Joseph Self, Sr.; brothers, Donald Wess and James Martin; and a sister, Audrey Wess. 

Rest in eternal peace, Betty. Your love will forever be our guiding light and your memory will be cherished in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Christopher Matthews - Officiating.
