On Sunday (December 17, 2023), shortly after 3:30 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal crash on LA Hwy 1082 near Smith Road in St. Tammany Parish. The crash claimed the life of 45-year-old Sean Brady of Covington.
The initial investigation revealed that Brady was southbound on LA Hwy 1082 on a bicycle. At the same time, a 2002 GMC Sierra, driven by 22-year-old Blake Griffith of Bogalusa, was also southbound on LA Hwy 1082, directly behind the bicycle. For reasons still under investigation, the GMC struck the bicyclist.
Brady was wearing a helmet, but he sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the GMC was properly restrained and was uninjured. This crash remains under investigation and Troopers will forward their findings to the St. Tammany Parish District Attorney’s office for consultation of criminal and/or traffic violations pending the completion of the investigation.
Troopers wish to remind motorists to always make good decisions while in a motor vehicle. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, follow all traffic laws, and always ensure every occupant is properly restrained. While not all crashes are survivable, taking simple precautions such as these can often mean the difference between life and death.
