James Jesse Cothern

September 11, 1944 - November 21, 2023

James Jesse Cothern, “Jim”, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Heritage Manor in Mandeville at the age of 79. He was born on September 11, 1944, to the late James Willard and Lillian Cothern of Bogalusa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Bonita “Bonnie” Montero Cothern. Jim was the father of James “Jimbo” Cothern (Lisa), Timothy “Tim” Cothern (Debra) and Michael “Mike” Cothern (Gena). He was the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren: the late Joshua Cothern, Chelsi Cothern Lee (Trey), Shelby Cothern (Garrett Kuracka), Cody Cothern (Veronica), Shayna Cothern Fauntleroy (Cole), Sean Cothern (Skylar), and CJ Henson. He also had 8 beautiful great-grandchildren.

Jim attended Chalmette High School. He worked for Washington St. Tammany Electric for many years and had to retire due to his illnesses. Him and his wife are members of the Palestine Baptist Church in Bogalusa.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend visitation starting at 9:00 am on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Palestine Baptist Church, 59369 Palestine Church Road, Bogalusa, LA 70427 until service time at 2:00 pm. Services will be officiated by Bro. Fred Brumfield.

The family would like to thank St. Catherine’s Hospice and Heritage Manor of Mandeville for their compassionate love and care for Mr. Cothern.
