Obituary

John Wayne Crain

October 17, 1944 - October 5, 2023

John Wayne Crain suddenly departed this life to go home to be the Lord Thursday October 5, 2023. He was 79 years old. Wayne was born on October 17, 1944 in Tylertown, Mississippi and was a native of Washington Parish. He was a firm believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and had been a longtime member of Stateline Missionary Baptist Church, where he taught the Men’s Sunday school class for many years. There is no doubt where he is spending his eternity today.

Wayne spent most of his youth around the Stateline area hunting and fishing with his many cousins. He graduated from Pine High School in 1962 where he was a standout member of the football team. He married Sue Fortenberry on May 8, 1965 and they remained together for 58 years until his departure. Wayne graduated from LSU in 1969 and was a staunch Tigers fan. He was an insurance agent for Union National Life Insurance Company for 33 years and had been retired for nearly 20 years. Wayne spent his retirement studying Sunday school lessons and devotionals, watching his grandchildren grow up, and hunting and fishing as long as he was able. The Lord called Wayne home while he was outside where he loved to be, cleaning up his yard.

Wayne is survived by his wife Sue Fortenberry Crain, son and daughter in law Roger Wesley and Theresa Crain, grandson Wesley John Crain, granddaughters and a spouse Brooke and Ian Turner, Lylah Audrey Crain, sister Renae Crain Black and nephew Jimmy (Dodee) Black, brother in law Gene Hayman and nephew Eric Hayman, brother in law John (Dianne) Fortenberry and niece Kandi (Kyle) Shelby, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Wayne is also survived by dozens of very special cousins around the Stateline area.

He was preceded in death by his parents John Wes and Nell Crain, grandparents Jep Crain and Ludie Seals Crain, Willis Crain and Lutie Knight Crain, sister in law Sue Hayman and other family members.

Visitation will be at Stateline Missionary Baptist Church (31384 Hwy. 62, Franklinton) on Monday October 9th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 2:00 pm Monday with Bro. Brent King and Bro. Trey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Seals-Tullos Cemetery on Johnny Martin Road in Stateline.
