Fred Kenneth Slade
August 4, 1932 - September 3, 2023
Fred Kenneth Slade, a resident of Angie, LA, passed away at the Grove in Columbia, MS on Sunday, September 3, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Angie and a retired educator (Ag Teacher). He was also a sponsor of the Bogalusa FFA Chapter. After retirement he continued to work as a cattle and tree farmer. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served his country in the U.S. Army as Military policeman and investigator. He was a graduate of LSU and loved the fighting Tigers.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Maysel Slade; brothers, Oscar, Winton, and infant twin brothers; and a great grandchild, Johnathan Ross Emmons.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Sylvia Slade; his children, Shanda Starnes, Greg (Tammy) Slade, Gary (Beverly) Slade, all of Franklinton; grandchildren, Charles (Kristen) Starnes, Robert Starnes, Sierra (Chris) Emmons, Stuart Slade, Brady Slade (Faye Bordelon), Jeremy Boone, Chase (Krystal) Boone, and Kayla (Tiler) Knight; great grandchildren, Alek and Arden Starnes, Lawson and Annalise Emmons, Levy Boone, Avery, Lola, and Charlie Boone, Madi and Leah Knight; and was expecting his 11th great grandchild, Bradley Slade. He is also survived by nieces, Cindy (Paul) Fornea and Blair Elaine.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Angie Baptist Church from 9:00 A.M. until time for the service at 11:00 A.M. with Dr. Bryant Barnes, Rev. Larry Mizell, and Bro. Michael Thomas officiating the service. Interment to follow at H.H. Williams Cemetery.
Active Pall Bearers will be, Michael Shappley, Mark Pittman, Matt Pittman, Dow Hillhouse, Mark Griffith, Bill Ryals, Jerry Hartzog and Hartford Owens.
Honorary Pall Bearers will be, Elude Williams, Dinky Knight, Bill Jenkins, Ralph Harris, Ed Ginn, FFA Chapter Members and Former Students.
