Parish President Richard Thomas declares a state of emergency to exist in Washington Parish as a result of the severe drought and wildfires that are playing havoc on our first responding agencies. In our parish alone approximately 400 acres has burned. Yesterdays fire alone included 36 personnel, 21 engines ranging from pumpers, tankers and brush trucks and bulldozers from the La Dept of Agriculture and Forestry. The public is urged to report any and all forestry-related crimes to local law enforcement or the LDAF 24-hr hotline at 1-855-452-5323.
As a reminder, a state wide burn ban remains in effect and has since August 7, 2023. No outdoor burning of any kind is allowed. Another Red Flag Warning is in effect today from 10 AM thru 8PM due to critical fire weather conditions persisting across areas generally along and north of a line from Morgan City to Slidell to Pascagoula.
