Margaret Johnson Holiday

December 30, 1932 - August 16, 2023

Margaret Johnson Holiday, age 90 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away early Wednesday morning August 16, 2023 at Lakeview Regional Medical Center. Together with her husband James, she operated the Holiday’s Department Store in downtown Franklinton for over 40 years. Margaret was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Franklinton and an avid golfer. She loved playing golf and watching tournaments on TV. Margaret and James, alongside several other families, were instrumental in the formation of The Franklinton Country Club. Earlier in life, she enjoyed attending LSU games and she and her friends played weekly “Bridge” card games for many, many years.

Survived by: Sister: Bobbie Nell Verret of Jeanerette; Brothers: Frank Johnson, Rayford Johnson, Kerry “T-90” Johnson and their families; Nieces and Nephews: Rebecca and Chuck Wilkes of Kentwood, David James of Jeanerette; Also many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews

She was preceded in death by her son James “Jamie” Holiday, Jr., husband James Lee Holiday, Sr., parents Odney Johnson and Thelma Morris Johnson, sisters Betty J. Smith, Shirley Johnson, brothers Robert “Jerry” Johnson, O.J. Johnson and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton) on Saturday August 19th from 11:00 until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday with Rev. Darryl Miller officiating. Entombment will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to the First Baptist Church New Sanctuary Fund (950 Self Street, Franklinton, LA 70438).
