Alex Levi Sumrall

March 10, 1954 - August 4, 2023

Alex Levi Sumrall, age 69, passed away peacefully Friday morning August 4, 2023 after a courageous battle against cancer. He was born in Tylertown, Mississippi on March 10th, 1954 and for over twenty years worked as a lineman for various companies, including the South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association. Levi was the best father to Alex and loved coaching him in baseball through the years. As his grandchildren got older, he liked playing golf with Peyton and Alex. Levi’s favorite place in the world was the family camp on the Bogue Chitto River. He also enjoyed spending time with his dear friends at the V.F.W. watching LSU games.

Survived By: Son and Daughter in law: Alex and Rachel Sumrall of Franklinton; Grandchildren: Madelyne Taylor Sumrall, Peyton Alexander Sumrall; 3 Brothers and a Sister: Jewell Sumrall of Franklinton, Jeanette Sumrall of Franklinton, Virgil Sumrall of Mississippi, Mike and Rose Sumrall of Amite; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Zander Sumrall, Sr. and Liddie Spears Sumrall, a sister Myrtle Sumrall Nielson, brothers Murle Sumrall, James Sumrall, Zander (Junior) Sumrall, Doyle Sumrall, Darvin Sumrall, Billy Ray Sumrall and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton, LA) on Monday August 7th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Monday with Rev. Jeremy Ingram officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the Oschner/MD Anderson Cancer Center and the wonderful nurses in the Critical Care Unit at St. Tammany Hospital. They would also like to thank extended family and friends for all their care and support during this difficult time.
