79 Year-Old Pedestrian Dies in Slidell Crash

The pedestrian in a Sunday (August 6, 2023) fatal accident has been positively identified by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office as 79-year-old Alvin Buras of Slidell.

Shortly before 8:30pm Sunday evening, Slidell Police responded to the intersection of Gause Boulevard West (Hwy 190 W) and Carroll Road in reference to a vehicle that struck a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 17-year-old man was driving a gold colored 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche truck westbound on Gause Boulevard West. A pedestrian was attempting to cross the roadway (Sunset Drive towards Carroll Road) and was struck by the truck. All indications show that the driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but to no avail. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, no charges have been filed against the driver. Impairment is not suspected; however, toxicology tests were taken from both the driver and the pedestrian. The results are pending. The investigation is on-going.

Shortly after releasing the facts of the crash, it was discovered that the family of Mr. Buras was in the process of filing a missing persons report. That is when it was discovered that Mr. Buras was the pedestrian from Sunday night’s fatal crash.

Slidell Police offer their sincere condolences to Mr. Buras’ family.
