Jennifer Lee Fleming

July 10, 1949 - June 30, 2023

Jennifer Lee Fleming, age 73 and a lifelong resident of Franklinton, passed away Friday evening June 30, 2023 at University Hospital in New Orleans. She was a Class of 1967 graduate of Franklinton High School, where she was a member of the cheerleading squad. Jenny then obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Southeastern Louisiana University and worked in nursing home care, home health and was the nurse for the Washington Parish School System throughout the parish. She taught an adult LPN class for a time and later retired as a nurse for the State of Louisiana, one of her duties was working alongside the Office of Emergency Preparedness following the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. During her children’s early years, Jenny took a break from nursing and operated the Gingerbread House day-care for nearly 10 years. She was a “mother” to a huge number of children that have fond memories of Mrs. Jenny still to this day.

Jenny was a talented craft-maker and artist. Her design was chosen as the Washington Parish Fair Doubloon in 1988 and recently her painting was the 2022 Washington Parish Fair Poster. Jenny volunteered at Mile Branch Settlement, where she often sold her crafts, and worked with other areas the Fair. She enjoyed reading, traveling to the Gulf Coast and spending time with her friends and their families on camp outs, LSU games, Mardi Gras parades, float trips on the Bogue Chitto and other family parties. Recently she really liked to get together with her classmates over dinner to share stories of “the good old days”. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and going out to eat with her daughter, as the two of them seemed to be inseparable. Jenny loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, following and supporting them in all their activities.

She is survived by: Daughter: Mechelle Fleming Schilling of Franklinton; Sons: Matthew Wayne Fleming and wife Karla, of Pineville, La and Mitchell Milton Fleming of Hammond, LA; Grandchildren: Brody Scott Schilling, U.S. Coast Guard, Los Angeles, California; Allie Christine Schilling and Emmalee Kate Schilling of Franklinton; Sister in law: Diane Caldwell of Bogalusa; Niece and nephews: Amy Branch and husband Al of Franklinton; John Hopkins “Sean” Caldwell, Jr. and wife Nicole of Thomas; Ellis Lee and wife Mary of Elk Grove, CA; “2nd Daughter”: Jeannie Kay Burris and her family; Special Friend and Companion: Earl Campo of Amite and his family, as they enjoyed spending many fun times at cookouts and get-togethers; Also survived by numerous beloved great-nieces, great-nephews and many dear friends

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Milton Wayne Fleming, parents Ellis Lee and Christine Kaloszi Lee, brother Kenneth Lee, father in law and mother in law Milton and Effie Fleming, brother in law John Hopkins Caldwell, Sr. .

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Monday July 3rd from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Tuesday with Rev. Joey Miller, Rev. Leon Hickman, Rev. Pat King and Re, Frederick Brumfield officiating, with a special reading by friend Chris Bird.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Blanco, nurse Keely, Dr. Malik, Dr. Aduli and their staffs for the loving support they provided Jenny and her family.
