Walter Shelby Pittman, Jr.

April 5, 1934 – July 15, 2023

Walter Shelby Pittman, Jr., of Foxworth, Mississippi, passed from this life into God’s presence on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born in Foxworth to Walter S. Pittman, Sr. and Anna Mae Thornhill Pittman and has remained a lifelong resident of Foxworth. Shelby spent his career as a driller in the oil field and retired to raise goats on his farm. When not working, he was an avid fisherman and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. He was a man of faith and served his community and his Lord through his longtime membership with First Baptist Church in Columbia. Shelby was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was devoted to his family. He was very generous with his time and will be remembered for always helping anyone who had a need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Robertson and Sue McRae; a brother, Ben Pittman; and a great-granddaughter, Breanne Pittman. 

Shelby is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Pittman; three daughters, Sheila (Dale) Miller of Franklinton, LA, Sherie (Kevin) Burke of Ponchatoula, LA, and Cassondra (Timothy) Corkern of Newton, TX; three sons, Drew (Gwen) Pittman of Franklinton, LA, Bruce (Lisa) Pittman of Franklinton, LA, and Carl Eldon Barnhart, Jr. of Foxworth, MS; two sisters, Tiny Dyess and Jan (Richard) Mosley; a brother, Ken (Debra) Pittman; grandchildren, Guy (Amanda) Miller, Autumn (Chad) Bryant, Patrick (Kim) Burke, Emily (Everett) Hillis, Ian (Jamie) Burke, Heath (Brittany) Pittman, Kallie (Blake) Armstrong, Shalon (Adam) Breland, Micah Pittman, Christina (Brant) Deshotels, Hilary Anne (Vinay) Gonagunta, and Alison Corkern; and 22 great-grandchildren.

There will be a funeral service, officiated by Reverend Tom Thurman, at the graveside in Woodlawn Cemetery on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 10:00am.
