Jewel Wayne Phillips

February 8, 1952 - July 4, 2023

Jewel Wayne Phillips, age 71 and a resident of the Sandy Hook community, passed away early Tuesday morning July 4, 2023 at his home. Wayne was born February 8, 1952 and was a longtime active member of Monroe’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He was very instrumental in constructing the new church building after a fire destroyed the prior sanctuary. Wayne truly loved his Lord, his family and his church family. He worked at the Bogalusa paper mill for many years and enjoyed antique cars and all types of hunting, in his earlier years.

Survived by: Wife of 42 years: Shelia Passman Phillips; 2 Sons and a Daughter in law: Everet and Kayli Phillips, Rodney Phillips; Daughter and Son in law: Melissa and Greg Peters; 3 Grandsons: Luke Phillips, Logan Phillips, Dylan Peters; 6 Granddaughters: Karly Phillips, Leah Phillips, Bailey Peters, Reagan Peters, Addie Peters, Paisley Peters; Mother: Mattie Smith Penton; 4 Brothers and Sisters in law: Mike and Linda Phillips, Stanley and Bonnie Phillips, Percy and Mary Penton, Terry and Penny Penton; 2 Sisters and a Brother in law: Phyllis and Huey Newcomb, Pam Wolfe; Sisters and Brothers in law: Joannie and Reggie Williams, Jimmy and Virginia Passman, Carolyn and Larry King, Preston and Sarah Rushing; Also numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his father Julius Phillips, brother Lloyd Penton, grandfather Percy Smith, nephew Alvin Phillips

Visitation will be at Monroe’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church Friday July 7th from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the church at 1:00 pm Friday with Bro. Mark Harrison, Bro. Jason Matheny and Bro. Mark Hobgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Penton/Phillips Cemetery.
