Michael John Gaillard, Sr.
May 28, 1943 - July 8, 2023
Michael John Gaillard, Sr., age 80 and a resident of the Warnerton Community near Franklinton, passed away peacefully at his home early Saturday morning July 8, 2023. He was born in New Orleans on May 28, 1943, and spent his younger years in Mansura, LA before moving to Lake Charles. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army on three deployments during the Vietnam War. He was also stationed in Germany, Fort Benning, Georgia and later in New Orleans before retiring from active duty. Michael worked in the maintenance department of the St. John Parish government for many years and also did maintenance at various plants in the area. He and his family moved to Washington Parish in 2006. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He enjoyed woodworking, making many different items for his friends and family through the years. Michael also enjoyed deer hunting on his property and he had a special place in his heart for his pet dogs and cats.
Survived by: Wife of 60 years: Rose Marie Palmisano Gaillard of Warnerton; Brothers and Sisters in law: Joseph B. and Janet Gaillard of Metairie, Hubert J. and Lou Ella Gaillard of Starks, LA; Sister and Brother in law: Mary Rose and John Fruge of Lake Charles; Sisters in law and Brothers in law: Betty Gaillard of Abita Springs, Margaret and Marion Tucker of Jefferson; Godchild: Becky Perry and her family; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his son Michael J. Gaillard, Jr., daughter Elaine Ann Gaillard, parents Buvens Joseph Gaillard and Doris Lemoine Gaillard, brother Mark Anthony Gaillard, father in law and mother in law Joseph and Stella Palmisano, brothers in law Joseph Palmisano, Jr. and Frank Lynn Palmisano.
Visitation will be at Holy Family Catholic Church (1220 14th Ave., Franklinton) Wednesday July 12th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral mass will be held in the church at 11:00 am Wednesday with Father Pedro Prada officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the St. Joseph Abbey Cemetery near Covington (75376 River Road, St. Benedict, LA).
