Parish School Board Recognizes Outstanding Students & Discusses School Safety

The Washington Parish School Board met April 6, 2023. The first order of business was to recognize some outstanding students: LSBA Art Winners and Students of the Year. See the students recognized and hear about their accomplishments by going to the video, beginning at 1:40.

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal and Franklinton Police Chief Justin Brown came before the Board regarding school safety. See the video beginning at 25:35 and ending at 1:06:10. Information was provided on Active Shooter Emergency Response and on how the Sheriff's Office and the Police Department plan for, train for, and respond to incidents that threaten the students and schools. Questions were asked and answers provided. Coordination with school administrations and the WPSS was described, as well as coordination with other law enforcement agencies. Sheriff Seal emphasized that during a school incident, officers will be running toward the shooter – not running away.

The Board then addressed the remaining Agenda Items (beginning at 1:06:10), heard the Superintendent's Report, and final comments by Board Members.
