Former STPSO Jail Employee Arrested

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a former employee Friday (April 14, 2023) afternoon after it was learned she was helping to bring illegal narcotics into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.

As part of routine security measures, a jail employee was checking mail leaving the correctional center, when suspicious correspondence was discovered and Jail Investigators and detectives with the STPSO Major Crimes Unit were contacted to begin an investigation. That investigation uncovered another jail employee, 23 year-old Breanna Sparrow, was assisting individuals inside and outside the facility to facilitate bringing illegal narcotics into the jail.

Sparrow was immediately fired and arrested on the charges of Malfeasance (3 counts), Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution (3 counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III CDS, and Illegal Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a CDS, She was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center. No bond had been set at press time.

Sparrow had been employed with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office since August 30, 2022.

“This individual abused her position as an employee in the correctional center and used that position as a means to bring contraband into the facility,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “We will not tolerate illegal drugs being brought into our facility, and if you are caught doing so, regardless of who you are, you will be arrested.  I continue to hold all of our employees to a higher standard.”
