District Attorney Warren Montgomery reports that on Thursday (March 2, 2023) a St. Tammany Parish jury found William Eugene Naulty, age 36 and of Tennessee, guilty of one count of sexual battery of a victim under the age of 13 and one count of indecent behavior of a victim under the age of 13. The crimes occurred in Slidell. District Judge Reginald Badeaux presided over the case.
In October of 2021, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate a complaint of child sexual abuse. Two minor victims reported that they were sexually abused by their mother’s boyfriend, the defendant, several years prior.
Both victims testified at trial about the sexual abuse they endured. One victim was sexually abused twice on one day, whereas the other victim was sexually abused over a lengthy period of time and the defendant threatened to hurt her if she told anyone.
Assistant District Attorney Popovich stated in closing argument that the defendant, “earned the 25 years these charges will bring him. Find him guilty and give these girls the protection and justice they haven’t had in their lives but which you can give them right now.”
The defendant faces 25 to 99 years in prison without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He will be sentenced on April 19, 2023.
Assistant District Attorneys Zachary Popovich and Brandi Dohre prosecuted the case. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office investigated the case.
