Ethel Gene Phares "Sissy" Campo

April 20, 1940 - March 3, 2023

Ethel Gene Phares “Sissy” Campo, a resident of Amite, died Friday, March 3, 2023 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. Ethel was born on April 20, 1940 to James “Steward” Phares, Sr. and Evelyn Hendry Phares and was 82 years of age. 

Ethel grew up in Amite and was a 1958 graduate of Amite High School. Ethel and Earl lived in Franklinton for a number of years before returning to make Amite their home. They enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping, and spending time at their camp on the river. 

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Earl V. Campo; stepdaughter, Tony C. Hobgood (Keith); stepson, Patrick Campo; step-grandsons, Allen and Mark Hobgood; step-great-grandchildren, Levi, Ryder and Addison; brothers, James S. Phares, Jr. (Dorothy), Tim E. Phares, Sr. (Gloria), Sherman H. Phares (Maureen), and Robert L. “Bobby” Phares (RenĂ©e); brother-in-law, Michael Wayne Campo (Valarie); sister-in-law, Peggy Campo; nephews, Eric Phares (Georgette), Tim E. Phares, Jr. (Kim), Troy Phares, BJ Phares, Blake Alley (Megan), Weston Campo, Nicholas Campo, David Stafford, and Jason Stafford; nieces, Robin M. Phares and Amber A. Costanza (Tyler); great-nieces, Abbey P. Macnamara (Andrew), Erica Phares, Emily Phares, and Elise P. Frosch (James); great-nephews, Cole, Lee and Wes Phares, Aidan, Ty, and Eli Wilkinson; 6 great-great-nephews; 4 great-great-nieces; numerous cousins and friends. 

Preceded in death by her parents, Steward and Evelyn Phares; and great niece, Amelia Clare Phares. 

Pallbearers will be Eric, Tim, Troy, and BJ Phares, Blake Alley, Aidan and Ty Wilkinson. Honorary Pallbearer is Eli Wilkinson. 

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, 10:00AM until religious services at 12:00Noon on Tuesday, March 7, 2023. Interment Amite Memorial Gardens, Amite, LA.
