Stanley C. Horning
November 1, 1940 - March 29, 2023
Stanley C. Horning, age 82, was born in the Hotel Dieu Hospital in New Orleans on November 1, 1940 to the late C.W. Horning and Zoila Horning, and passed away Wednesday morning March 29, 2023 at his home. He was educated in the New Orleans Parish school system. Stanley worked around the world in the oil fields, which enabled him to retire at age 53. Some of the countries he was employed in were in Africa, Dubai, Singapore, The Bahamas, Indonesia, Holland and England. Stanley was always a gentleman and a very kind and friendly man to all he knew. Spending time with his family always gave him great pleasure and he loved all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. In 1962, he met Ruth McElveen, the love of his life and he always told people he fell in love with her the first time he saw her.
Stanley is survived by: Wife of 60 years: Ruth M. Horning; Sons and Daughters in law: Wayne and Chantee Horning, Michael and Kim Horning; Daughter: Janis Horning LaBorde; Grandchildren and Spouses: Heath and Amanda Horning, Taylor and Ryan Gulotta, Tyler Horning, Brittany and Matt Sessions, Kasey Horning, Sydney LaBorde, Trent and Brittnei Thomas; Great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Jackson, and Emily Horning, Jaxton, Jaelyn and Jennings Sessions, Shelbi and Beau Thomas; Sisters and Brothers in law: Mary and George Hester of Hammond, Lola and Gerry Sniff of Chattanooga, TN; Sisters in law: Louise Horning, Betty Horning, Mary Lou Horning; Brothers in law and Sisters in law: Rev. Leroy and Emelda McElveen, Jo and Murray Joe Duncan, Ann and Mike Henley, Annie Ruth McElveen, Debbie Frazier; Also numerous nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters in law John and Esther Horning, Edward and Linda Horning, brothers Charles Horning, Robert Horning, sister and brother in law Carmen and Frank Fowler, father in law and mother in law Houston and Iona McElveen, sisters in law and brothers in law Dot and Ronald Schilling, Opal and Charles Williams, sister in law Faye Morgan, brothers in law Dale McElveen, Sidney Frazier.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Sunday April 2nd from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Sunday with Rev. Ray Weurzer and Rev. Leroy McElveen officiating.
Honorary Pallbearers are Scott Thompson, Earl Gill, John David Schilling, Kevin Creel, Lee Deering, Matt Sessions
