In the early morning hours of Wednesday (February 15, 2023), the Covington Police Department began investigating nearly forty (40) complaints of vehicle burglaries within the City of Covington committed by two or more persons.
The Covington Police Department, with the assistance of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, quickly responded to the area of the initial call and were able to locate one suspect, identified as Lawrence Brown III, hiding in a creek. The Covington Police Department also identified and arrested Xavier Robinson for his involvement.
Brown and Robinson were transported to the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center and booked with nearly 40 counts each, including simple burglary, theft of firearms, illegal possession of stolen things, and other charges stemming from their overnight activities. The items taken during the burglaries included firearms, body armor, wallets, and monetary instruments. All items were taken from vehicles not properly secured by their owners.
Covington Police Chief Ferrell reported, “Most vehicle burglaries in the City of Covington result from unlocked vehicles. All the vehicles burglarized last night were unlocked. These burglaries are 100 % preventable. We urge our citizens to be more proactive by locking their vehicles and removing valuable items from their vehicles. It should also be noted that most firearm-related crimes, such as shootings and homicides, are committed by criminals who have stolen firearms.”
This is still an open and active investigation, and additional arrests are expected.
